“Most Efficient Ways to Handle Financial Anxiety…”

by Admin on October 14, 2009

Have you been feeling anxious about today’s horrible economy?… Don’t feel bad because you are not the only one. Studies done recently by the APA(American Psychological Association) have discovered that 80% of folks say that the decline in the economy is the main cause of financial anxiety or depression and stress – which is a major rise from 62% just six months ago.

When it comes to stress related issues ladies are most likely to suffer the most. In contrast to men, women report that they are more stressed about:

Money - Women 83%  and  Men 78%
The Economy - Women 84%  and  Men 75%
Job Security -  Women 57%  and  Men 55%
Housing Expenses - Women 66%  and  Men 58%
Health Issues -  Women 70%  and  Men 63%

Neither groups of people between the ages of thirty and forty three or the ages of eighteeen and twenty nine aren’t safe from the economic crisis either. Middle Agers are the women mainly worried about money *(89% report money as the main problem of stress)* and Lower Agers are most concerned about housing expenses *(75% report housing costs as the main reason of stress)*.

All you hear in the news and people talking about nowadays is how much worse the economy is getting everyday, which is very difficult not to get stressed out about how this situation will effect you and your finances. Luckily, there are tactics that you can make use of to quickly help control anxiety during this economic disaster.

Here are 5 easy techniques for you to use:

#1. Give yourself a reality check by making a financial plan to fit your budget. This is definitely the #1 thing you can do to lower financial anxiety. As a result of you having a budget, you will know where you are spending money, how much you owe, and where you may need to reduce spending. By not knowing where all your cash is going can cause you an extreme deal of needless stress, so get organized and create a financial plan.

#2. Stop worrying about things that you have no control over! For example, you can’t control if it’s going to rain on a day you got planned for the beach, so you definitely can’t control whether the billion dollar bailout package is going to build up the economy. What you can be in command of, though, is your own money, which in turn will help perfect your organization and lower stress. Therefore stop worrying about stuff you can’t control and concentrate more on the things you can.

#3. Be more responsible with the use of those little plastic things – better known as credit cards. Just because you have available credit doesn’t mean you have to spend it, so start paying with cash instead of using credit. This will help you feel more in command of your money and save you the problem of not knowing how you are going to pay your credit card bill off at the end of the month.

#4. Try to do some form of exercise daily. Studies have proven over and over again that exercise is by far one of the best methods used to ease anxiety and stress. As a matter of fact, exercise has been show to be just as efficient as therapy and prescriptions when it comes to perfecting some symptoms of depression. You don’t have to workout for hours or even have an extreme exercise routine. Being consistent is the key to success, so plan to exercise for twenty to thirty minutes 3 to 4 times a week and you should be fine.

#5. Concentrate on what’s most significant in your life – not in everybody else’s life. Make a determined attempt to begin spending more time doing activities you really take pleasure in. This does not have to be anything major, instead spend some time doing down-to-earth things that make you joyful, for instance hanging out with family and friends, finally starting that venture or mission that you just keep putting off to the side, or even doing some community service to help other folks out.

By following the simple steps mentioned above, you will be on a fast track to overcoming your financial anxiety.
